Make It Or Break It; Stained Glass For Beginners, 2nd Edition by Phillip McKee Make It Or Break It; Stained Glass For Beginners, 2nd Edition by Phillip McKee Feb. 01, 2012 $7.99 33920 words Sample 15%
Author bio:
Phillip Curtis McKee, III, took up stained glass to relax himself from the stressful work of a Firefighter/EMT with the Arlington County Fire Department, VA. His skill grew rapidly until he had won two nation-wide competitions. His work was featured in newspaper articles, on TV, and even on the cover of a national publication. But as with everyone in America, the events of 9-11 changed his life forever. Phillip was among the first to respond to the Pentagon and worked for three straight days at the crash site. During the rescue work, he sustained serious injuries in the line of duty, was placed on disability and subsequently retired. After 9-11 stained glass provided him with a way to bring beauty back into a world stained with hatred. Dissatisfied with the quality of beginner’s stained glass books on the market, and determined to bring the joy of stained glass into the lives of others, Phillip wrote this book. Today he creates stained glass art, writes, and manages web sites despite now having to walk with the aide of a cane. Phillip taught Glass Arts at the Art Studios at Fairlington located in Arlington, VA, and operates a full service studio in Fairfax, VA, where he lives with his spouse, Officer Nopadon McKee, MTPD, and their dog, Cloe. He is always happy to answer student questions via e-mail at inquiries@mckeestainedglass.com or on his website. Phillip did his undergraduate studies at Yale University and his graduate studies at Harvard University. He also held a research fellowship at Princeton University. Before becoming a Firefighter/EMT, Phillip was a nationally recognized expert on Internet Fraud, served on a White House Panel on Aging, testified before the FTC, FDA, SEC & DOJ, and was the Asst. Director of the National Fraud Information Center, Washington, DC. For almost 10 years he served on the Board of Directors and was Vice-President of the Yale Club of Washington.

Vince learned at an early age, that is father required him to pay for his stuff, like new school clothing and other stuff. Through out Vince's whole childhood life, he worked weekends with his father in the middle of the night at his bakery, to earn money to buy clothes for school. Vince got his first real job as a paperboy at the age of 11, and kept that job instead his was 13, when he got a better job washing dishes at the local Harvey's Country Kettle Restaurant, where he would ride his bike to and from the restaurant several nights a week after school. Vince kept the dish washing job until he was 15 years old, and got a job a big grocery store in the next town over. Vince did not have a drivers license yet, but he really wanted to keep his job, so he would hitch hike after school to his grocery store job, and sometimes he would be picked up by his teacher, and she would give him a ride to work. All of Vince's brother's and sisters we required to move out of the house before they turned 16 years old. Vince was able to talk his older friend into renting an apartment with him, that worked at the grocery store also. The manager was nice enough at the grocery store to let Vince work nights shining the grocery store isles with a machine, and working each Sunday, where the other employees were only allowed to work every other Sunday, because the grocery store paid over time, and Ron the manager, had a kind heart. Vince joined the Navy when he was 18 and liked it very much. He spent 4 years on shore duty at an air squadron, and 4 years at sea duty, where he was stationed on a submarine tender, the USS Proteus, and a destroyer, the USS David R. Ray, and a short stint on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier. While on the destroyer, the ship would escort Kuwaiti oil tankers full of oil destined for America, out to sea so they would not get attacked. They would put an American flag on their ship, and the destroyer Vince was stationed on would escort them out to sea and safety so everyone back in America could get cheap oil at the time While Vince was in the Navy and living in San Diego, California, he has always owned, raised, trained, and enjoyed dogs in his life.

Having been a computer systems analyst and xIBMer may not sound like the path to creating a cookbook, but it was. I have taken various recipes from mom (a great cook), friends & articles and adapted them to my easy cooking / easy clean-up theme. One client accused me (humorously) of being the laziest person he knew. He said I would spend an hour to save 5 minutes a day... and he was right. Hence the "easy" theme of the cookbook.

Dena Dale Crain relocated to Kenya in 1990. She has spent most of her time since then living on the shore of Lake Baringo, two hundred miles and a five hour drive north of Nairobi, with husband Jonathan Leakey, eldest son of Louis and Mary Leakey, renowned palaeontologists. Dena saw patchwork quilting as a way to employ local women, taught herself the basics and began a small production quilting business in her home. With advanced degrees in design, anthropology, and textiles, she was uniquely positioned to help. As her experience and confidence increased, she began producing “one-off” works of art. Dena’s innovative and art quilts have been the subject of several solo art exhibitions. With Canadian quilter Anne Mains, Dena helped found the Kenya Quilt Guild. She helps educate members of the society at large about quilts as art. She has written magazine articles and lectured at quilting and non-quilting functions. Teaching in Cape Town, South Africa, for the Good Hope Quilters Guild National Quilt Festival in July 2002 moved Dena into the ranks of international quilting teachers. She travels all over the world to teach other quilters. In 2004 Dena joined the faculty of Quilt University (http://www.quiltuniversity.com), an online educational facility for patchwork quilters. Twice each year, she teaches seven online quilt classes including her most popular offerings Darned Quilts, Goodbye to the Grid and Math for Quilters.

Just Keep Knitting: a journey of healing through forgiveness, faith, and fibre by Lonna Cunningham Just Keep Knitting: a journey of healing through forgiveness, faith, and fibre by Lonna Cunningham Jan. 11, 2012 $8.99 55765 words Sample 20%
Author bio:
Lonna Cunningham lives on a very small farm in rural Alberta where she and her family raise sheep, chickens and veggies, accompanied by a Dexter cow, several dogs and a fluctuating number of cats. You can read Lonna’s musings about life on the farm, knitting, gardening and a variety of other somewhat random subjects on her website at blog.applejackcreek.com. Lonna rarely goes anywhere without a knitting project in hand and once sat at the side of the road after a car accident working on a sock while waiting for the police to arrive. She is engaged in an ongoing effort to balance the size of the fibre stash in such a way as to ensure that there is always enough on hand to allow for the immediate implementation of suddenly-inspired projects while at the same time attempting to stay within the available storage space. In addition to knitting, Lonna also enjoys spinning, particularly on her beloved century-old Canadian Production Wheel, and she can often be found online in the Ravelry or Homesteading Today forums, where she is known as Frazzlehead. The onset of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder brought Lonna’s twenty-year career in Information Technology to a rather unexpected end, and she is now exploring other ways in which she can contribute to the family’s financial stability (and pay for yarn).
