The Phantom Miner by Drac Von Stoller The Phantom Miner by Drac Von Stoller Dec. 17, 2011 Free! 659 words Read a sample
Author bio:
Drac Von Stoller's imagination and fascination for the Horror genre began when he was a little boy watching his favorite actors such as Vincent Price, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi on his little black and white television alone in his dark room. Drac would watch these horror movies for hours and build model kits of his favorite characters like Dracula, the Wolfman, Frankenstein and even the Munster's car from his favorite television series. Then as time went on and nothing was left to the imagination in the new horror movies, Drac still loved watching the old movies he so loved as a little boy. Then as Drac became an adult he decided one day that he would write a short story in the horror genre and let some of his friends read it and see what they thought. Drac's first short story was titled "Death in the Wilderness," which would be considered flash fiction but this would be Drac's test to see if he was destined to be an author. Sure enough when people read "Death in the Wilderness" they loved it but couldn't understand why Drac didn't keep on with the story but Drac knew all along that if what they read was so good then Drac has succeeded. This gave Drac the confidence he needed to keep on writing more and more short stories. The rest is history Drac has now written 31 short stories in the course of a 2 year span. Drac doesn't want to write a story unless it moves him in a way that he would want to read his own work and say any horror or ghost fan would not be disappointed.

My name is Alan James Keogh and I am a 20 year old writer with dyslexia. I am a third year student in U.C.D (University College Dublin) studying for a degree in English and Classical Studies and wondering who is stupid enough to give me a degree. I also write a blog in which I post new short stories every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, that's right, three new short stories a week, every week. They can be viewed at https://AlanJamesKeogh.wordpress.com I did consider writing this in the third person, as though it was written by someone else, but Alan is not comfortable writing in the third person as it seems kinda creepy and unbalanced so Alan decided it was probably best to write in the first person. He hopes it went well for him.

I was born the 6th of 8 children to a high school English teacher and a financial planner. I inherited a love of reading and literature from my father and was a voracious reader when I was a child. In high school I discovered I had a penchant for the stage and fell in love with acting. Unfortunately I was never able to seriously pursue an acting career. I did, however, graduate from the University of Illinois with a BA in Rhetoric in 1984. I sat upon the skills I learned and did nothing with them until about the age of 30 when I decided if I wanted to become a successful writer I needed to write something. I have written several novels in the horror and fantasy genres. The Edge of Sanity is the first that I have self published as the established publishers don't seem to know good writing when they see it. I will soon be releasing other titles under this name and other pen names. Oh, the picture of me that you see on this page is a picture of me in partial makeup for a movie called Chartarum where I play a zombie and a patriot type guy who gets shot in the head by a government sniper.

I am a writer living in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England. In a past life I was a photographer and film-maker and I'm still fond of film. It's possible I might do it again if the urge leaps upon me from a great height. I hope that readers will download my free short ebooks and get a taste of how I write, and if it's to your liking let me know. If it isn't then you can also tell me - all feedback is good feedback. Subscribe to my blog and get advance notification of new short stories or novels. I will also be posting stuff that I find interesting or quirky. Any comments on my blog appreciated, as are any reviews of my stories. I will be publishing my debut novel in early 2012: a paranormal/timeslip/romance/thriller, so I hope you will either bookmark me or take a look at my blog for progress reports and release date. It will be on Smashwords and Amazon. It's quite a fat book. With lots of pages. Think Dan Brown meets Stephen King in a Celtic village with several fly-by-wire Tornado aircraft and a dead Viking berserker, coupled with a timeless romance and unspeakable evil...then forget the bit about Dan Brown and Stephen King and download the book, which I hope you will find well worth it :) http://about.me/J.D.Hughes http://www.jdhugheswriter.wordpress.com

Harvest Moon by J.E. Taylor Harvest Moon by J.E. Taylor Aug. 05, 2010 Free! 4297 words Read a sample
Author bio:
J.E. Taylor is a writer, a publisher, an editor, a manuscript formatter, a mother, a wife and a business analyst, not necessarily in that order. She first sat down to seriously write in February of 2007 after her daughter asked: “Mom, if you could do anything, what would you do?” From that moment on, she hasn’t looked back and now her writing resume includes six+ published novels along with several short stories on the virtual shelves including a few within eXcessica anthologies. Her first book, DARK RECKONING - released on July 5, 2010 - introduced Special Agent Steve Williams to the masses. Pamela Jenewein – Romance At Heart Review: “J E Taylor writes a thrilling and engaging paranormal horror, “Dark Reckoning”. The absorbing, fluid plot builds slowly towards its divergent terror-driven climax. As sturdy, forthright characters convey the story’s age-old message; stay out of the woods…and while you’re at it, the water too.” Ty Drago, Editor of Allegory and author of PHOBOS: “J.E. Taylor has penned a tale of terror worthy of Lovecraft. The strong characters, edgy atmosphere and unflinching narrative hooked me from the first word and kept me riveted all the way through to DARK RECKONING's horrifying conclusion - a solid piece of storytelling!" VENGEANCE – released on November 1, 2010 is the second in the Agent Williams series. Author Poppet says of Vengeance: “VENGEANCE is a great crime thriller – it was an excellent read, it moves at a frenetic pace with multiple character threads being woven through it to culminate in an explosive ending. I recommend it as a gripping read you won’t be able to put down.” And Hunting Season is the latest Steve Williams Novel. "Unstoppable, breath stealing, and terrifying all at once." - Cat Connor, author of killerbyte, terrorbyte, and exacerbyte. "Hunting Season goes where few venture, mixing a compelling crime thriller with supernatural forces. The action and drama is thick and fast and I guarantee you will not be able to put this book down." - Poppet, author of Seithe and Darkroom. She also released her first erotic thriller in July 2010 - SURVIVAL GAMES. Pamela Jenewein, Romance At Heart, Rated Grade-A Select Recommended Read: “Ms.Taylor creates an overwhelming thrilling reading experience. Although ruthlessly dark and sinister, Survival Games is an impacting, powerful read, lingering long after it’s finished. There is no forgetting this author, or this work of fiction.” John Everson, Bram Stoker Award Winning Author: "Sexy dark and intense, Survival Games will bind you to the page, kiss you slowly and then kick you where it hurts the most; I couldn't stop reading until I knew who won the game... Jessica Connor is one amazing character, and Survival Games is one hot read!" MIND GAMES – the second book in the Games Trilogy was released on November 29, 2010. The last book, END GAME was released on February 14, 2011 In addition to being co-owner of Novel Concept Publishing, Ms. Taylor also moonlights as an Assistant Editor of Allegory, an online venue for Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. She has been known to edit a book or two and also offers her services judging writing contests for various RWA chapters. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children and during the summer months enjoys her weekends on the shore in southern Maine.

Dave Jeffery is 46 and lives with his family in rural Worcestershire. He was born in The Black Country and spent most of his youth dreaming of writing and drawing comic strips for DC Thompson, creators of The Beano and The Dandy. Dave completed his first novel, Badlands, at the age of ten and admits that it was 'pretty awful'. He still has it hidden somewhere in his loft. At school he used to write and illustrate comics for his school friends, selling them for a few pennies. At 15 years of age, he was invited to Dundee to see DC Thompson’s offices after sending his portfolio to them. Nothing may have come of the visit but the dream of getting work published continued. He is perhaps best known for his Beatrice Beecham series originally with Chipmunka Publications, London. This adventurous, super-sleuth teenager is currently on her second adventure with a third, Beatrice Beecham’s Cryptic Crypt, due out in 2011. The eBook Housefull of Horrors is released through Smashwords on October 31st and contains all seven Beatrice Beecham chapbooks. Writing as David Jeffery, this author also publishes adult and young adult horror and supernatural fiction. His zombie novel Necroloplis Rising will be released on September 11th through Smashwords. The prelude chapbook Splatoon is available now by following the book cover link on the home page. His Beatrice Beecham Presents: Campside Chillers collection will also be available early next year. In the interim Dave's short stories can be found in the Creature Feature anthology and his story Masquerade has been accepted for inclusion in the forthcoming WATCH anthology from Imprint Phoenix Publications. When he is not writing novels Dave works as a mental health practitioner. He has published an academic book with John Wiley & Sons and articles in his field of mental health whilst presenting on the international stage. He is in the process of editing another book for Speechamrk Publishing Ltd, for release in 2011. He is also author of Finding Jericho, a novel for young adults released through Chipmunka Publications, London exploring the relationship between a 15 year old boy and an uncle who has been diagnosed with manic depression. This book has been endorsed by the mental health charity MIND. Dave enjoys music, playing guitar and was once in a band called The Lion Farm who took their name from the council estate where he was dragged up.

I do not control the ideas genres, nor do I control the stories unfolding. Why do I tell stories? Well mainly to shut the characters up. They do not stop whispering in my head until their story is told. Oh, also you the reader. Yes, I have to admit that I tell stories for your entertainment. My characters depending on genre and what they are doing will try to make you laugh, cry, hold your breath, bring you to the front of your seat, and so on. They want to entertain you. So on behalf of all the whispering people in my head I hope you enjoy the ride of what ever story you choose to read.

I'll level with you. That is a picture of my younger sister!!! I know. Good looks run in the family, usually in the opposite direction. I was 243 on my last birthday, and the last batch of embalming fluid didn't quite hit the spot. If you saw the real me, you too would run a mile. Anyway, I have a twitter account now, which means (I think) people can leave me messages. Happy to get comments about my books. hhtp//unclegarf.wordpress.com. So. I have the third in the series bubbling away, and the lovely Fred Ducket will have some fun. You know me by now. I don't write words. I just write stories. Get stuck in. For anybody who gives a damn, in my face book thing, the black dog is Minnie. The rural scenes are outside my front door. I live in a small town, population 1407 and me, about two hours drive north from Wellington, capital of New Zealand. The Tararua Ranges are close by and they go on for miles, dividing east from west. The Tasman Sea is about twenty minutes away by car going west. Most of my stories are set in NZ, and I think that gives them a different flavour. For anyone reading One Man's Dream, the Turakina Valley is as described in the book, including the 17 acres. I'm from the Midlands in England, originally. I hope you are liking my stuff. I am always happy to get constructive criticism, just be gentle with me. see you on Facebook. Thanks for your support, Gary AKA Shannon Levin.

John has been working on his third full length novel for a few months now. The first draft is complete and he is in the edit stage. The working title for it is "Alone Again." It is set in an old house in a suburban community that a couple purchase from a builder who had fixed the house after it had stood abandoned for a few years. The wife was never the same after they moved into the house. She became withdrawn and was hearing voices in the house. Her health deteriorated and he felt there was little he could do to help. When tragedy strikes, a coworker befriends him to help him cope. Things start happening in the house that open the possibility that the tragedy may not have been as random as he thought. Gary W. Olson grew up in Michigan and, despite the weather, stuck around. In 1991 he graduated from Central Michigan University and went to work as a software engineer. He loves to read and write stories that transgress the boundaries of science fiction, fantasy, and horror, while examining ideas of identity and its loss in the many forms it can have. Author bio:
Derek Gunn was born in Ireland in 1964. He grew up in Dublin and graduated from the College of Marketing in 1986. Most of his working life has been in the IT/Telecommunications industry and he currently works for a major global telco as a specialist consultant designing communications networks and solutions for businesses. His interest in writing fiction came about from being a young voracious reader of great storytellers such as Alastair Reynolds and Edgar Rice Burroughs. As a young teenager he discovered Stephen King, James Herbert, Graham Masterton and many more great modern genre writers and became totally hooked on horror and adventure stories. In his mid-teens he began writing short stories. College, career, marriage and a young family took all his energy and focus but, around 8 years ago, he took pen in hand, once again...He is married and (still) lives in Dublin with his wife and three children and his shadow, Mac - an adorable, faithful golden lab (think Marley and me and you get the picture...)
