Preface
The following illustrates a personal account of Peter James as an individual. Much of Mr. James’ persona so far has been viewed as edited, expert commentary in various televised programming. Peter James, per his request, wanted me as a co-author to sequentially form this preface based on events leading to our initial introduction. Until now, very few in Peter’s fan base realize the true nature surrounding his various thoughts and theories. Similarly, only those in the general public that were directly associated with James truly knew him as an individual. My wife and I first were first aware of Peter James while attending the University of La Verne in Southern California during the early ‘90s. Shirley and I were dating at the time, and quickly learned that the city of La Verne had very little nightlife surrounding the main campus. In the dorms, we had no cable and a VCR that didn’t play tapes; instead, it chewed them up. To make matters worse, as new students, we couldn’t even afford to treat ourselves to happy hours.
A few weeks into the new term, a show debut on FOX called “Sightings”, which was followed by a new show called “X-Files.” Needless to say, this quickly became our Friday night. As episodes of “Sightings” progressed, we learned of a correspondent known as Peter James. James was a psychic that relayed weekly to paranormally ‘hot locations’ throughout the nation in various episodes. In my hometown of Long Beach, California, resided the ship the Queen Mary. In the history of Long Beach, this location has always been rumored to be a paranormal site by numerous employee and visitor experiences. Upon the first episode viewed of “Sightings”, Shirley and I watched as Peter investigated the pool area of this same famed luxury liner.
In this particular episode, Peter James was visually documented in film frames; as his eyes revolved from walls to ceiling, (clearly audible on tape) the voice of a young disembodied ghost child was heard. We, as a couple, were instantly hooked. Every following week, as host Tim White would say, “Next week on ‘Sightings,’ we’ll check in with Peter James as he investigates…” – without the sentence being finished, we would look at each other with ecstatic expression. It didn’t matter where James was conducting a paranormal investigation, we were tuning in!
Fast forward to today. Shirley and I celebrated our ten year wedding anniversary on April 26th, 2007. To mark the occasion, we wanted to do something uniquely different. While routinely performing a business day, I had my wife research a paranormal tour aboard the Queen Mary. A few minutes later, I heard Shirley shout from her office, “No @#&%ing way! GET IN HERE!!” I quickly responded and discovered an image of Peter James on the computer representing the paranormal tour aboard the ship. Needless to say, we reserved spaces instantly.
On the date of the tour, we found a sitter for our eight year old daughter; allowing us to arrive early on the ship. I have worked in Hollywood for a number of years and tend to know the nature of celebrities. Without previously knowing Peter James, I expected him to briefly address the guests of the tour, only to escape the situation and leave the dinner and tour to an assistant or guide. To our surprise, it worked out quite to the contrary.
James was devoted, not only to the tour, but to the dinner itself. Peter suffered from a breathing ailment that prevented him from exploring various levels of the ship. Peter proceeded in guiding us to locations that spurred much of the local lore; at the same time, never wavering from his characteristic voice. At one point, he called to a child entity by the empty pool, “Jackie, talk to me, Jackie!” “Jackie, speak to me… Hello!” Shirley and I looked at each other, simultaneously, when hearing the distant, shrill response, of what seemed to be, the voice of a child entity. We heard it twice faintly and distinctly, then not again that evening.
The tour continued far after midnight. Peter James made sure that every question regarding the tour was answered; and, that no one was left insecure regarding personal losses in the afterlife. This fact was apparent in the emotional reaction of a guest member that found solace in Peter’s theories and conclusions.
My wife and I are a bit skeptical of afterlife places. It takes something or someone truly exceptional to convince us that a world exists beyond our reality. Peter James did this for us. Upon conclusion of the tour, James gave everyone his personal e-mail address. Grant, Peter’s personal assistant, additionally supplied his e-address.
A week later, I sent James an e-mail thanking him for the tour; and, said that we were longtime fans of his televised work. Moreover, I went as far as suggesting that the tour brought Shirley and I full circle in our relationship. He responded – not with a quick reply – but instead, with a multi-paragraph response. Peter James relayed that he enjoyed our attendance; and, if we had any questions regarding the paranormal, to contact him directly at his residence. He additionally included his personal phone number! Peter accepted everyone.
My wife continues to tell people that meeting Peter James was to know him forever. I can’t think of a better way to describe his initial acknowledgement. Upon our first introduction, I shook Peter’s hand, looked him in the eye, and felt that this was a person that I had known over a lifetime. To date, Peter James is one of the most gracious, accepting and generous individuals that I have ever met, outside of family.
Flash forward to the day after the Queen Mary tour. Shirley and I presented our daughter, Sophia Francesca, an autographed DVD that was purchased from James’ tour. We viewed the DVD of Peter James conducting investigations aboard the ship. Ultimately, Sophia pleaded to attend the next paranormal tour hosted by James. I know at eight years old, you never would’ve gotten me to go down the dark the corridors of an old ship – let alone, looking for ghosts! But three additional tickets were purchased for the following month of May.
I sent an e-mail to Peter James regarding our family’s excitement in attending the next Queen Mary tour. Not only did Peter respond, he offered to have our daughter call out to the child entity in the pool area! Sophia loves skateboarding, and wears clothing in accordance with this trend. In a like manner, it is difficult to make her comfortable in wearing dresses, even for pictures with Santa. However, for the Peter James tour, she picked out a dress.
On the night of the tour, Peter James conducted the evening as he did previously. His generosity and attention to every member of the group never wavered. And, as promised, James allowed Sophia to call out to the young child entity in the pool area. Fortunately, I videotaped this event. Unfortunately, no one in the group heard “Jackie” respond. However, when later viewing the tape, there were two instances of a child’s voice in response to the combined broadcasting efforts. The voice was clearly audible when the volume was amplified. And, during one of these instances, James is clearly seen in a close up alerting the group with a gesture – as if to say, ‘Did you hear that?’ He heard Jackie when no one else did. Sadly, this was to be Peter’s final tour.
Before passing, Peter James extended a final detail in his life. I called him shortly after the tour in recognition of his efforts over the course of the evening. In addition, I relayed a project idea that I had for sometime. It was something that I felt was potentially beneficial for James. He loved the idea; in fact, he asked me to outline the concept! Over the next few days, I submitted an outline for his review. In response, and apparently based on my writing technique, he asked me to co-author this book. I immediately replied – YES!
Upon reaching an agreement, Peter James began forwarding volumes of manuscript documents that he had compiled over the years. This was for real! I had gone from fan, to co-worker with a legend. He asked that I transcribe the content of his writing into a book format. However, in reviewing the file attachments as they were received, I noticed something quite unique. Peter wrote like he spoke. Anyone that knows Peter James can relate to the fact that he possessed a dramatic intensity in the timbre of his speech. I convinced Peter that his writing should remain as true as possible for the sake of his fans. Readers need to hear Peter James with their inner voice. I had my work cut out for me.
Peter James painted a picture when speaking, especially when giving a description. One sentence could literally be a paragraph long. To make matters worse, when free writing, he didn’t utilize syntax or grammatical measures such as commas, semicolons, etc. However, this was a project that became a passion. James arranged a meeting with Shirley and I at his residence to discuss the layout of his book. Peter’s longtime neighbor, Victor, from the apartment across the courtyard additionally attended the gathering. He ordered take-out for everyone to enjoy during our discussion. Several times in the past, Victor was instrumental in rushing James to the hospital for medication adjustments.
Over the course of the meeting, it was apparent that Peter’s breathing was greatly distressed. Nonetheless, he was relentless with passion to relay personal wishes regarding this book. Peter James stressed that he wanted these pages to be his “legacy.” Additionally, Peter said, “Gian, I’m a psychic, not a writer; that’ll be your job.” He extended that he was thankful that I had an extensive writing background, coupled with a desire to tackle this project. I learned from Victor that others had abandoned this project in the past. I assured James that I was grateful for the opportunity.
Over the course of the evening, it was apparent that Peter James had a deep concern regarding the public’s image of members in the afterlife. As he stated, “After all, these are my friends.” At one point, I compared him to the ‘Crocodile Hunter’ with his extended efforts to demystify ghosts and hauntings. He agreed. James showed great pride as an ‘ambassador’ to the paranormal world. Just as Steve Irwin would caress a sharp toothed wart covered violent animal, and say, “Isn’t she gorgeous?” Peter James continually did this with unseen forces. He wanted his thoughts recognized so children could sleep well while ‘things go bump in the night.’ James revealed that he was often referred to in the media as the “Godfather of the Ghost World.”
A week after the meeting, Peter James was admitted to the hospital for respiratory complications. He died shortly after on July 31st, 2007. A memorial service was held aboard the Queen Mary on August 23rd in the ship’s chapel. Many fond memories were eulogized from family, friends, co-workers, celebrities, ship executives and fans. At times, tears were shared with laughter, as some reflected instances of Peter’s humor. Upon the advent of the service, many did not realize that James was an ordained minister. Further, of the many couples that were joined by his hand over the years, all are still together.
In addition to being a globally recognized psychic and paranormal researcher, Peter James was an accomplished jazz and blues singer. Tears flowed from those attending the memorial as images of Peter were projected; his dramatic underlying voice spoke and sang while broadcasted periodically throughout the dedicated tribute. Queen Mary President and CEO, Howard Bell, eulogized that Peter James was a great asset regarding worldwide recognition of the famed vessel. In addition, Bell stated, “Peter’s spirit won’t stray too far from the Queen Mary, where he has many friends.” Peter’s ashes remain aboard the luxury liner to this day.
In 2006, the QM II arrived from England and exchanged a “whistle salute” with the original Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. After knowing Peter James, I view this celebrated event in a different way. Perhaps, someday hence, the QM II will share a new generation of haunting activity that Peter describes in chapters of this book regarding her predecessor. Moreover, with James’ personally proven methods of ghost communication, the future will be bright for those souls that will inhabit her decks. As Peter states, “Everything in life evolves. So, why not ghost research?” This manuscript will be a bible for future generations of paranormal researchers; further, those that seek peace in their home from ‘things that go bump in the night.’ – And finally, as per the fulfillment of the wishes of Peter James, “a legacy” for all of us.
As the “Godfather of the Ghost World,” Peter James has set a documented high standard for psychics and mediums and anyone in the field of ghost research. Today, interest in the paranormal has reached an all-time high. Credibility and high quality standards of recent televised programming regarding paranormal research are directly correlated to the efforts of James. On any given day, Discovery, History, Travel, A&E, Biography, National Geographic, BBC, SCI-FI, truTV, Lifetime, Real TV, etc. will have featured programming regarding the paranormal. This lineup of broadcast scheduling is not to mention the re-release of popular shows from long ago; and, the advent of globally popular paranormally dedicated podcasts and internet sites. The pages you are reading are forged by one of the greatest responsibilities ever bestowed to me. It is with immeasurable honor that I am able to present you with the words of Peter James. Additionally, it is important to realize the passion Peter dedicated in extending his knowledge of the great beyond for all of us to share.

Introduction
Heaven Can You Hear Me? is an autobiographical and poignant account of a life experience with ghosts and hauntings. The title can easily be referred to as: “The World of Ghosts According to Peter James.” It all started with extraordinary personal childhood experiences, to becoming one of the world’s foremost ghost researchers. I regard every investigation to be uniquely exhilarating. Though I have been unnerved being pinched, pushed, slapped and burned by ‘unseen’ hands; still, my work has never been frightening. I realize fear has a tendency to paralyze man in his pursuit of knowledge. Therefore, it must be said with a great deal of tenacity, that there isn’t an actively haunted place in the world that I would be afraid, nor reluctant to investigate!
Though having belief in forms of energy greater than man, I have never been one to believe or follow information provided from hearsay knowledge. This includes childhood religious orientation that that was ‘given up’ when I was eighteen. There were many unanswered questions that I wasn’t allowed to ask; and, far too many fear tactics. I was expected to simply accept other’s interpretations that didn’t resonate with me. Having learned about dogma, I was fearful of what was expected to be believed and accepted as knowledge. However, these teachings never satisfied the needs that would coincide with personal paranormal encounters. So, I became a free thinking and free spirited individual that in turn followed no particular belief system. In conducting any personal investigation, findings and theories are applied to hands on experience; coupled, with simple logic!
I maintain an approach to the paranormal world that is continually progressive and clearly upscale. This personal concept differs from belief systems that continue practicing virtually unchanged methods for over two thousand years. Everything in life progresses and evolves. – Why not ghost research? Example: Why not make all programming black and white without sound? Investigations have become progressive, as I understand and experience them with differing opinions and theories regarding dogma and organized religions. Consequently, my take on heaven and hell is the reason I came up with the title for this book. All based on fact.
I am convinced that ghosts are real; further, that they walk amongst us. For me, ghosts are seen clearly and not with the mind's eye. I can actively communicate with the realities of other dimensions parallel to ours; and, as close as an arms reach. Ghosts speak to me and give personal information. Communicating with an entity is no different than with any other living physical being.
Like most people, I was raised with religious concepts that totally revolved around having blind faith. I was told (from ‘old knowledge’) that this particular ideal would help remove all obstacles. This belief was also designed to better deal with the trials and tribulations of (my) life’s journey. Confusion quickly set in, due to the fact that I was being taught one thing, while personal experiences proved differently. These various standards suggest that I remain fearful of an alleged, loving-judging, super being that most people tend to humanize.
I felt the need for something tangible from a longing in life. There existed a void in the depths of my soul. The only thing I had faith in, was – I. Accordingly, responsibility was bequeathed on a personal level at a young age.
Particularly, when realizing the need to change the ‘blind faith’ path I was taking. These directions failed in providing the free will necessary in making personal decisions; namely, choices towards certain goals and consequences there of; not withstanding, the dependence on a super being approval, will, or the fear.
If I attempted to do something and succeeded, it was due to personal efforts and circumstances. However, in failing an attempt, it was mainly a lack in an area of opportunity. There remains a part of me that wants to believe in fate; in that we exist to seemingly experience life’s path or journey. I much prefer an existence without boundaries. Why wish for something greater than man to push all the right buttons? Life, at times, is experienced by the spin of the dice! A point in mind: man’s ability to deal with blind faith as a precursor to the outcome of life’s plan.
Other than procreation, there is no logical explanation for the beginning of birth to the existence of man. Therefore, man had to resort to supernatural phenomenon or processes for acceptable answers. Don’t we say the same thing about death and dying regarding what allegedly happens to us after death? Meaning that, we ‘end up’ in some questionable afterlife place of existence. Man remains in a quandary regarding birth, life and death, even during the advent of a new millennium.
I find it tragically sad and peculiar that man can’t get along with man since the beginning of recorded religious history. Moreover, millions of people have been murdered or sacrificed all in the name of religion or dogma! No man has ever died, gone to heaven and returned, to speak of the joys and rewards of an afterlife existence, other than an initial message derived from second-hand knowledge. And, believers will speak of this ideal with conviction! It’s all in the mind of the beholder!
While referring to special information compiled for this book, I was left quite frustrated. Over a period of time, I’ve been torn while pondering reservations regarding how to diplomatically get my message across. I feel like I’m in a ‘catch twenty-two’ over leaving well enough alone; or perhaps, keeping one eye closed to techniques that I’ve always heard about, read about, and observed from many others that are engaged in paranormal research.
In my continued effort to learn more about the unknown world, I realize it is impossible to have all the answers. Personal methods practiced are not always perfect. In all good conscience, I feel compelled to share my views regarding a variety of research methods. I’m simply trying to raise awareness though thought provoking comments. All efforts are in the hopes of creating new or different paths in the field of ghost research.
While not trying to convince anyone of my belief system, let it be known that I’m quite a skeptic; and, not particularly inclined to accept anything from hearsay knowledge. Many personal methods might sound a bit foreign in comparison to your knowledge and understanding of ghost research. In the end, I’m hoping that we can all be more mindful of ‘change’ as to how we perceive the afterlife. There will always be a personal willingness to share with those ‘followers’ interested in a different spin on the afterlife. With every respect to all religions and belief systems, I should likewise be entitled to my own path. So despite the fact that I believe heaven and hell are merely mythical places, it has still given many a sense of where they feel the after places exist. Clearly and unequivocally, no one can prove the existence of such places; and, these individuals speak only of their existence from the same implied ‘story-told’ information.
Therefore, in an effort to shed a different light on these issues, my goal is to demystify the world of ghosts. We need to not demonize entities as Hollywood tends to portray them, as well as most religions. I will be very specific when speaking of a differing position regarding where we go in the afterlife. In addition, care will be given in discussing the natural processes that juxtaposes a life beyond this one. The world at large is extremely misinformed about life after death.
Many people follow (and trust) a belief system suggesting a place exists that is more rewarding and much better than physical life when we die. They will start planning for the afterlife and preparing for it in many ways; including, ignoring the very precious gifts of life itself. This is regarded as being sacrificial in efforts of honoring – and to be recognized by – something more powerful than man. This further demonstrates that blind faith ‘rules’ by requiring gestures of good deeds and dedication to the powers that be. I was scared to death as a child because of the teachings – if we misbehave in life, the consequences are that we will burn in hell and shovel coal for all eternity. What an asinine concept to convey to someone, let alone a child! First, how does one burn in hell without the physical body? More fear tactics shared by authoritative figures; that I believe, got their ‘jollies’ from scaring people into a righteous lifestyle.
Many feel creating a puritanical lifestyle will automatically make them appear worthy in securing a deserved place in the ‘promised land.’ The irony of some religions that don’t practice birth control is that they won’t allow their clergy to get married and procreate. These individuals are said to become sacrificial by living a life of celibacy. Thus, each spends a lifetime in symbolic mourning, ultimately, purposely sacrificing life’s precious gifts. Most religions utilize this practice as a weapon against nonbelievers that are not up to par in their beliefs.
They will say things like, “Wait ‘till judgment day;” or, “Boy, will you be sorry when God (or whoever stands before you) decides your afterlife fate.” Again, no man has been able to prove it. Religion should be a personal and private choice. It takes courage and tenacity to say the things I do; because, not only is there a strong belief in these abilities, I am also very secure with me. I speak in this manner being part of a career revolving around the paranormal world; including, all concepts and theories. This is chiefly due to my extraordinary experiences.
Let it be known, that in sharing viewpoints on the afterlife places, I am not anti-religion. I greatly respect those that have the need to follow organized dogma. However, in my opinion, dogma and the paranormal do not play well together. I am simply suggesting that one should be given alternative choices; versus, the more conventional ‘stock’ teachings resulting from historical knowledge. It’s like alternative medicine versus conventional, in that, doctors ‘practice’ medicine to the best of applied knowledge and ability. Doctors still don’t have all the answers. Their patients should have free will to choose alternative medical or specific scientific procedures. Individuals should further have peace of mind in knowing where we (and our loved ones) go after death. Certainly, it is challenging when knowing all the facts given to present day man regarding a quest to conquer the unknown world.
The following is something I would like to share and feel is worthy of mention. That is, how much of my life has been filled with a great deal of frustration. At times, dealing with the public can be particularly painful. Perhaps, much of the emotion is brought upon regarding the choice to peruse what I do in a professional and public manner. There are so many ‘doubting Toms’ and endless skeptics. It has become a ‘stigma’ to be associated with psychical research. I feel embarrassed, at times, being referred to as a psychic. Unfortunately, many people still perceive a psychic to resemble a Gypsy fortune teller of yesteryear.
Anyone so inclined can be a psychic; and, do well in the process. However, they need to be more individualized in their method of practice. Many psychics (respectfully) follow the dots that are ‘shaped’ for them by a mentor. Usually, methods are ‘copied’ by their predecessor’s sense of what a psychic should do; or, how to conduct their lives. It is all too redundant. When trying to fit in the typical psychic mold, I also stopped meditating. Further, a personal choice was made to quit doing what was expected in the traditional psychic fashion. It was at that point, I began to see ‘things’ outside and separate from my body; ultimately, not with my mind’s eye. Progressively, over time, I became fine tuned and ‘more aware’ of my surroundings.
I am of the opinion that too much time is spent on meditating, fasting and idolatry. Add to this setting chanting, and the constant need to have an alleged angel or spirit guide. Some claim to have a teacher or master working with them that provides license to a better way to proceed accordingly. If one is truly ‘gifted’ and psychic, then they should not need to resort to the way things were done according to tradition. It is seemingly all hand-me-down hearsay knowledge.
I’ve met tons of psychics over the years. Many of them, I feel, are being quite genuine in their approach in sharing knowledge with the public. However, some take great pride in predicting negative events that may include someone’s death, earthquakes or some other worldly tragedy. They speak of these things, because it is almost expected of them. It seems to be the ‘lingo’ that they adhere to; or, the formation of a new trend.
In meeting today’s young psychics, they speak and practice the same language developed during my late teens. (Now I’m dating myself.) Examples of these include karma, psychic power, the universe, astral travel, etc. There doesn’t appear to be anything new or different from old knowledge. These practices should be more progressive. This could be considered true in the same way most feel having applied knowledge about ghosts and hauntings. Moreover, I find it interesting when discovering how most individual ideals are when pertaining to ghosts, goblins, witches, evil beings, etc. It is the way these sources are perceived to be, and often sensationalized, that elicits the most fascination. Some never take the time to dispute their existence. Why? They claim to learn as a child to be careful in dealing with the paranormal world.
You might get that I’ve met with a number of people that follow the teachings of the bible; yet, have never read it. The findings are always presented as second hand info. It is expected of these individuals to follow mentoring from parents or clergy, without questioning the absolute source of the information. Some appear closed off in wanting to learn about the greater ‘open minded’ facts of psychism; rather than, abandon stock tradition. I endeavor to introduce much needed respect into the paranormal world; all the while, in an area frowned upon by many in the public. These findings will prove that we are okay, despite some of our idiosyncratic behavior. I will not suggest that meditating is wrong or unnecessary.
However, I feel (certainly from many hands-on experiences) that we should begin to look outwardly, which allows us to become more cognizant as to what is around us. I subsequently feel that most ‘energy forces’ are external, and that science has no measure for these fields. Machines utilized tend to record physical occurrences. Sadly, those afflicted with a visual impairment, i.e. blindness, have a greater sense of their surroundings. These individuals possess a keen sense of what is around them that helps in becoming acclimated to various settings. I suggest we should become more aware of our external individual environment.
So much time is spent on needs for protecting one’s self from alleged hearsay evil forces that are potentially contagious, infectious, contaminating and life threatening. It is possible to bring to light ongoing communication with the other side and witness immediate response. Currently, I have been fortunate enough to work with a friendly cooperative ghost (which has been witnessed by many) that I am able to interact with. I receive remarkable coherent feedback from this individual entity. These conversations are conducted by means of ongoing sessions of communication. Moreover, I am attempting to find ways of promoting and conjuring up more electromagnetic energy. All efforts are in hopes of evoking easier encounters with the ghost, further enabling him to produce evidential physicality.
I am finding out more about the other side with help from this particular ghost. He remains completely (at all times) outside and separate from my body; and, never viewed with the mind’s eye! This evidence proves that we maintain awareness in transition. I’m attempting to learn how a ghost can electromagnetically charge itself; further, causing a visible manifestation within these efforts. Every encounter continues to exhilarate me. However, my frustration is sustained when traveling and doing television shows like “Sightings” for eight years. I really enjoyed doing (with a great deal of respect) the show, but sadly, some of my greatest evidential findings ended up on the cutting room floor. I don’t understand why they edited out these evidential happenings. Perhaps, in making my own video in the future, I will insert this unseen footage.
This book will be, in part, a reference guide to ghost research. Particularly, the contents will be a useful tool if you seek a progressive approach, better understanding and personally applied methodology regarding paranormal research. All findings are based on many years of hands-on experience. Let it be known, the information in this book is merely suggesting that one explore different theories, philosophies and methodologies. In a like manner, I suggest alternative approaches, versus the one you may be currently utilizing or following. However, if you are comfortable within a frame of reference and practical use, then I applaud you with these applied convictions. Consequently, let us be able to respectfully disagree on some areas of information revolving within, and around, the great beyond.
What is a Ghost or Haunting?
Generally, haunting activity occurs when someone dies untimely, violently or tragically. The soul, the core or essence of an individual, within the process of transition from life to death, becomes a ghost or entity. Each remains where the loss of physical life or incident of death took place. Ghosts are very territorial. They will haunt a place that is familiar, meaningful or comfortable to them. We must take into consideration that ghosts or entities maintain the same level of consciousness in death as they did in life. Therefore, when someone dies untimely at home, for example, they are familiar with the surroundings and will remain. If someone passes in a hospital resulting from some sort or tragedy or violent trauma, they will remain in that hospital setting. Each is confused as to how they got there and will look for the life force that was lost. Additionally, they will remain (as most ghosts do) in a cyclical state of confusion.
Ghosts are desperately trying to figure out how they died; or, will unsuccessfully try to ‘solve’ the circumstances that caused their untimely deaths. That is why it is so important for us (the physical living) to reach out and help them to the next place of comfort. Sadly, most are not aware of being dead. Though, as most ghosts are friendly, they can and do coexist with the living. On occasion during an investigation, I will encounter a ghost, entity that is not friendly or agreeable. These souls do not want to cohabitate; but instead, create disturbing or violent behavior. This factor makes the particular entity a bit risky to be around. This is true unless some sort of action and interaction is exercised. (It needs to be clear here that I’m not referring to exorcised.)
Common and active locations of a haunting may occur in places like hospitals, state and federal prisons like Alcatraz, for example. Also included are ships (like the Queen Mary), battle grounds, and places like Ellis Island, where ultimately many deaths and suicides have occurred. The least likely place for haunting activity would be any cemetery or burial ground. People are put to ‘rest’ there. They don’t die in cemeteries! So, if you want to contact or communicate with a loved one, a cemetery is not the place to have a conversation with the dear departed.
Ghost activity has become ‘matter of fact’ for me. I don’t like to sensationalize hauntings, or demonize ghosts and entities. I get very annoyed by those that do; particularly, when they are in an alleged haunted house, saying things like, “Oh my, there’s something strange and dark going on here.” My response: one doesn’t go into a haunted house to play bridge or do grocery shopping. When one enters a haunted house, one should expect to find strange anomalous activity. When an individual goes to a meat market, they expect to buy meat!
I never feel like I have all the answers; so, to some degree, each investigation gives me a feeling of uncertainty. Accordingly, when on camera, I choose words and opinions very carefully. When walking into an unfamiliar haunted house, (despite what a resident might say regarding the activity) if I don’t feel, sense or see anything within the first five minutes, then, in my opinion, it’s not truly haunted. People are inclined to think that they are haunted, rather than their home or dwelling. Ghosts haunt places that are familiar to them. They don’t usually haunt people. Only on a rare occasion would a person be haunted. That would be like stalking someone in the physical life. There is no true death. We simply continue in a different realm of existence. The soul is the indestructible core of life that never ends – nor dies.
I have several theories as to why entities remain earthbound (so to speak) and I feel many will agree with me. I will mention later in greater detail the concept of being earthbound. Some are misinformed about the realities of other dimensions; namely, the world of ghosts being referred to as ‘supernatural.’ My contention is that there is no unnatural or supernatural phenomenon. It is, instead, our disregard for knowledge and understanding of what is natural. Ghost activity is quite usual. Just like death is a natural part of life. Also, when making reference to the word supernatural, it ties in dogma and religion. The two don’t mix!
The reason an entity remains earthbound is due to some unfinished or unresolved matters that require attention. This theory would definitely suggest that we maintain awareness in the great beyond. Perhaps, a ghost was falsely accused of a crime for a murder they did not commit. Or, if ‘they’ were murdered, ‘they’ would haunt a site until justice is served. Further, the entity would find freedom as the guilty party (or assailant) is caught and revealed. Similarly, they may try to get an important message to a person of meaning or loved one. The most common ghost is the one not aware of being dead as the result of an abrupt untimely death. They continue doing (so to speak) the things they did while alive among familiar surroundings.
Entities that remain and are cognizant of physical beings left behind (like family members, for example) want to somehow interact with them, as those entities usually did. Some won’t (or can’t) let go until a member in the physical realm suggests or helps them move to a better place of comfort. Some refuse to ‘move on’ and we should not feel responsible for their choices.
Add this to the mix
The information in this book will attempt to rule out a dark and sinister side involving ghosts and paranormal research. It’s not about ghosts, goblins and evil beings. There isn’t anything evil about the great beyond; or, those that ‘inhabit’ the realities of dimensional boundaries. A reminder: we don’t become something in death that we’ve never been in life. Also, does putting a hex (magic spells) on someone really work? What about Voodoo curses? My contention is if one believes in this kind of a mindset bunk – so be it! There is myriad of superstition in the world.
